Asif graduated from Glasgow University Medical School in 1991.
He is an Honorary Associate Professor for Rila Institute of Health Sciences and Plymouth University Medical and Dental School.
He also holds the post of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer (Imperial College Medical School, London).
His NHS post is in a London teaching hospital were he is Clinical Lead for the endourology / kidney stone service.
Asif was born in Glasgow (Scotland – UK). He trained as a specialist registrar in Urology on the East of Scotland Training Programme in Urology.
He trained in the world renowned Scottish Lithotriptor (Stone) Centre Western General Hospital Edinburgh, in minimal access techniques in stone surgery as well as Ninewells Teaching Hospital (Dundee) performing laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery during part of this period. Ninewells Hospital has close links with the world renowned Cuschieri Laparoscopic Training centre.
After completion of his registrar training he was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon.
His areas of subspecialist interest are kidney surgery (keyhole and laser) with a particular interest in kidney stones. He also deals with prostate problems, benign prostate surgery and other general urological conditions of the bladder and genital organs.
He is Programme Director for Urology for the Rila Institute of Health Services (London), Regional advisor (London) for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow, editor for the Journal of Endoluminal Endourology.
Asif’s main research interests are on kidney stone imaging and treatments as well as newer technologies such as augmented reality and is a member of the worming medical advisory and scientific group for the Holomedicine Association. He also has an interest in artificial intelligence applications in Urology. He has published in peer reviewed journals and presented at national and international meetings.
Asif is actively involved in several charities ane enjoys travelling and sport (tennis, football and cricket)
